DANVILLE, Va.—After finishing fall play at 2-1, the Southern Virginia University women's tennis team opened its spring schedule on Thursday with a perfect 9-0 victory at Averett University.
Southern Virginia (3-1) took all three doubles matches from Averett (0-5) as the Knights top two doubles teams—Rachel Reid/Bethany Johnson and Rebekah Reid/Ivy Kuroki—both earned 8-1 victories, while their third-seeded team of Rebekah Ericson/Courtney McNeil won without dropping a point (8-0).
The Knights carried their doubles momentum into singles play taking all six matches from the Cougars on the way to the shutout victory.
"Today was a great start to the spring season," said fourth-year head coach Deidra Dryden. "It's nice to start playing again and we're looking forward to the rest of the season."
Women's tennis plays again tomorrow at Randolph College starting a 3:30 p.m. EST.
