Blocher Earns Singles Victory in Final Collegiate Match

BUENA VISTA, Va.—Despite falling by a 6-3 score to Ferrum College, the Southern Virginia University men's tennis team saw senior Brian Blocher earn a final singles victory to close out his collegiate career Monday afternoon at The Fields.

Blocher, a Rockwood, Tennessee, native, picked up his 32nd career singles victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ferrum's Taylor Napier. The 32 career singles wins is among the most in program history and now has a total of 58 victories to his credit between doubles and singles matches.

In doubles competition, Nos. 2 and 3 doubles pairs Brennan Alford and Kjell Henness and Parker Monson and Aaron Hiatt fell in close matches by respective 9-7 and 8-6 scores as the Panthers earned two crucial doubles points with the wins. Blocher and doubles partner Dallin Evans were defeated by Ferrum's Napier/Garrett Freese by an 8-1 tally.

In singles action, Evans defeated Panther Danny Keo, 6-4, 6-1, while Ferrum's Freese picked up another crucial point for Ferrum by defeating Alford in a tiebreaker, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).  William Sharp of Ferrum then defeated Henness by a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 score.
