Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va.—Playing in its second home game to start the 2014-15 season, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team was defeated by Washington & Lee University by an 82-59 score Wednesday evening at Knight Sports Arena.
The Knights were led by junior forward Melynda Boren's 24 points as she shot 12-17 from the field. On the defensive end she also had two steals and four rebounds. Junior center Crystal Cleveland tallied 11 points off five buckets during the game and tied for the team high with six boards on the night.
Senior guard Ann Kuroki poured in eight points on 3-7 shooting while freshman guard Marissa Belliston scored six points and tied for the team high with five assists during the game.
The squads shot equal percentages from the field (48 percent W&L, 47 percent Southern Virginia), but the Generals pulled away in three-pointers by going 7-17 while the Knights shot 3-12 for 25 percent. Washington & Lee also took advantage of Knight mishaps by scoring 31 points off turnovers to the Knights' 13.
Southern Virginia returns to action Friday night with a neutral game against Randolph College at the William Peace Tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
