BLUEFIELD, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team kept its streak alive with a 6-1 defeat over Bluefield College Monday afternoon at The City Courts in Bluefield, Virginia.
The Knights swept the Rams in doubles play. Elizabeth Fuchs and Lindee Christensen teamed up for an 8-3 victory over Karlie Pope and Rebecca Havens (BC). Rachel Christensen and Ashley Adamson topped Anastasiia Pavlukova and Sierra Queen by an 8-4 count. Ann Kuroki and Kari Stollenwerk won by default.
In singles action, Karlie Pope earned the only point for the Rams with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat over Rachel Christensen. Lindee Christensen beat Anastasiia Pavlukova by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Elizabeth Fuchs picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rebecca Havens (BC) in the No. 3 singles hole. Ann Kuroki trumped Sierra Queen (BC) by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Kari Stollenwerk defeated Allison Morgan in one set, 6-4. Heidi Lee won by default.
The Knights sit fifth in the Capital Athletic Conference and qualify for the CAC women's tennis championship tournament for the first time in school history. The squad looks to extend its five-game streak as it faces Frostburg State on Tuesday for its last conference match of the season. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm at The Harold J. Cordts Physical Education Center in Frostburg, Maryland.
