Women's Basketball Downed by Undefeated Eagles

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team lost 72-56 to an undefeated University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Mary Washington (14-0, 7-0 CAC) took an early 10-point lead after the first quarter and had control at halftime with a 14-point lead. Despite the efforts of the Knights (3-11, 0-7), they were unable to make up for the first half deficit.

Shelby Winsor recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Merideth Ouellette added 11 points, which included a three pointer at the final buzzer, and tied her career-high of seven assists.

The Knights defense held Mary Washington's leading scorer to single digits, after recently having two 26-point games.

Southern Virginia shot 33.3% from the field and 57.1% from the line compared to the Eagles 39.7% from the field and 64.3% from the line. 

The Knights travel to St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday, January 14 in search of their first CAC victory. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
