BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia women's tennis team built upon their momentum to beat the Lynchburg College Hornets 6-3 in a six-hour marathon match.
The Knights (3-1) were expecting a difficult match, which could be seen at No. 1 doubles as Kari Stollenwerk and Micah Morse fought hard to fend off their opponents, but ultimately fell 8-5. The No. 2 doubles team, comprised of Makaela Adamson and Lauren Morrison, secured an 8-4 win. At No.3, Kelly Worthington and Laura Elko fought hard for an 8-6 win to secure a 2-1 lead in the match.
Despite the early lead, No. 1 Kari Stollenwerk fell 6-0, 6-0 to her opponent, leveling the match. No. 2 Lauren Morrison and No. 3 Micah Morse both beat their opponents, 6-1 6-2 and 6-2 6-0. In the No. 4 spot, Kelly Worthington fell 1-6 0-6 to her opponent.
With the narrow 4-3 lead and night falling, the Knights' No. 5 Makaela Adamson and No. 6 Natalie Teets both had to focus and bring big wins. Ultimately, they were both able to come through, 6-4 7-6 (7-3) and 6-1 3-6 6-2, respectively, to seal the team victory.
The Knights will host Penn State Harrisburg on March 18 at 11 a.m.
