Knights Sweep Emory and Henry in Fifth Straight Win

By Zachary Bowers

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team improved to 5-0 after a 9-0 sweep of Emory and Henry on Saturday.

The Knights (5-0) saw little resistance from the Wasps in doubles winning at all three positions while dropping only one game per match.

Riding the confidence from their doubles matches, the Knights started strong in singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 and 2 positions played by Paul Monson and Ben Spencer.

In his debut singles match, No. 5 Gary George bested his opponent to win by a score of 6-2, 6-0.

The Knights sealed the sweep with wins from No. 3 Andrew Blonquist, No. 4 Tanner O'Brien and No. 6 Zac Bowers.

The Knights will have a week before their next match where they will face off against NCAA Division II opponent Virginia State University. They will play in Petersburg, Virginia at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.
