NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team fell to No. 36 Christopher Newport University 9-0 Saturday, snapping an 11-match win streak. The Knights defeated Frostburg State University in Newport News on Friday, 9-0.
On Friday, the Knights traveled to Newport News to take on Frostburg State. The Knights quickly went up 3-0 in doubles against the Capital Athletic Conference foe.
In singles, the Knights continued their momentum. Both Ben Spencer and Andrew Blonquist defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0. The rest of the Knights gave up some games, but all prevailed in straight sets.
The Knights returned to Christopher Newport's campus early on Saturday morning to take on the No. 36 Captains.
Southern Virginia fell behind in doubles, with each doubles team getting broken at least twice to give the Captains a 3-0 lead.
In singles, the Knights were able to make inroads in many of the sets but only No. 4 Tanner O'Brien was able to take a set from the Captains. O'Brien would ultimately fall 10-6 in the third-set tiebreaker.
The Knights will hit the road on Tuesday to take on Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m.
