Men's Tennis Wins Two Thursday to Jump to 10-0

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia men's tennis team extended their perfect season to a 10-0 record after defeating West Virginia State University and Ferrum College 8-1 and 9-0 respectively on Thursday.

The Knights started against West Virginia State in Lexington, Va. on the campus of Washington & Lee University, where the Knights went up 3-0 after sweeping doubles.

Playing No. 2 for the Knights, Andrew Blonquist quickly raced through his first set but ran into resistance during the second; he eventually won 7-5.

The Knights only gave up one match in their battle with West Virginia State, winning 8-1.

With the win under their belt, the Knights raced back home to take on Ferrum College. Previously, the Knights have had very close matches with the Panthers, and the Knights were looking to dominate this matchup.

Doubles was won quickly for the Knights, putting themselves up 3-0 from the start. As a team, the Knights then gave up only five games in their six singles matches to win the match 9-0.

This is the fourth match the Knights have won 9-0

Ove Cordes, a freshman from Germany, made his debut with a win in doubles against West Virginia State.

It will be a week before the Knights return to take on Shenandoah, March 21 at 3:00 p.m.
