ASHLAND, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team earned a non-conference road victory over Randolph-Macon College Wednesday afternoon with a 7-2 score.
With wins from Tanner O'Brien and Andrew Blonquist as well as Paul Monson and Ben Spencer and No. 1 and 2 doubles, the Knights (13-3) took a 2-1 lead heading into the singles matches.
After going up 5-0 against his opponent, No. 5 Thomas John Snelson's opponent retired, giving the Knights a 3-1 lead. No. 2 Ben Spencer was next off the court, quickly defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-1.
No. 3 Tanner O'Brien clinched the match for the Knights, defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-2.
No. 1 Paul Monson defeated his opponent in straight sets while No. 4 Andrew Blonquist regrouped to beat his opponent in a third set.
At No. 6, Zachary Bowers fell in a tight third set tiebreak, 10-8.
On Saturday, the Knights will take on Capital Athletic Conference opponent York College (Pa) at home at 12 p.m. T.J. Snelson, the lone senior on the team, will be honored before the match.
