WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Southern Virginia University swimming program began its inaugural season on the road in a dual meet against Gallaudet University Saturday afternoon. Both programs made history collecting victories with the men's team topping the Bison 150-92 and the women's team 125-108.
The Knights enjoyed a plethora of individual successes throughout the meet. For the men's team, Southern Virginia won 11 of the 14 events.
The trio of Gordon McCreadie, Matt Wood, and James Baldwin led the Knights as each athlete earned a pair of individual victories. McCreadie recorded wins in the 50 backstroke (30.11) and 100 freestyle (53.94) while Wood touched first in the 50 breaststroke (36.46) and the 200 freestyle (2:16.06). Baldwin came out on top in the 50 freestyle (22.71) and 100 backstroke (59.56).
Southern Virginia also collected top-place finishes from Connor and Collin Moore and Tate May. Connor finished the 1000 freestyle in a time of 11:08.54 while Collin won with a time of 28.31 in the 50 butterfly. May wrapped up the day for the Knights with a win in the 500 freestyle posting a time of 5:58.82.
On women's side, the duo of Emmy Waite and Macy Waite led the Knights with two individual first-place finishes. Emmy won the 50 (27.69)and 100 (1:04.53) freestyles while Macy pulled out victories in the 500 (6:51.02) and 1000 (14:01.67) freestyles.
Brooklyn Sandholzer, Emma Merrill, and Emilee Tippets also added first-place finishes for Southern Virginia women's team. Sandholzer won the 200 freestyle 2:37.75 while Merrill touched first in the 50 backstroke 34.44. Tippets triumphed in her first race of the season in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 42.23.
Southern Virginia swept the 200 freestyle relay. The Waite's, Sandholzer, and Ellie Burgy made up the women's team, recording a time of 2:04.08 while the men's side of McCreadie, Moore, May, and Baldwin finished first in 1:35.52.
The men's tandem of McCreadie, Moore, May, and Baldwin also went on to win the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:47.93.
The Knights travel to Hampden-Sydney Friday, Oct. 25, for a tri-meet with the start time slated for 4 p.m.
