LEXINGTON, Va. — The Southern Virginia University, men's and women's swimming teams, hosted Salisbury University for their home-opener. The Knights fell 128-73 in men's and 157-61 in women's.
On the men's team, James Baldwin led the team with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.67. He also recorded second-place finishes in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.
Collin Moore won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:36.00 while Tate May added a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle (12:17.13) and third in the 500 freestyle. Matthew Wood won the 200 breaststroke in 2:54.20, followed by teammate Will Dryden for second-place.
The Knights won one relay on the day, taking first in the 200 freestyle relay that consisted of May, Moore, Wood, and Denver Norcross.
On the women's side, Emmy Waite and Emilee Tippets led the way to win their respective events. Waite won the 50 freestyle in the time of 27.78 and added a second in the 100 freestyle posting a time of 1:01.92. Tippets won the 200 breaststroke in 3:24.82 while Izzee Martinez came in second place.
Macy Waite earned a second-place finish in the 100 backstrokes and came in third overall in the 1000 freestyle.
The Knights lone win in the relays was in the 200 freestyle with the team made up of Emma Merrill, Ellie Burgy, Brooklyn Sandholzer, and Emmy Waite.
Southern Virginia travels to Lynchburg Saturday, Nov. 9, as they will compete in the Lynchburg Invitational with a start time slated for 1 p.m.
