Knights Win in Five-Set Thriller

HUNTINGDON, Pa.—The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team earned a tough five-set win over conference opponent Juniata College on Friday evening.

The Knights (8-1, 4-0 CVC) jumped out to an early 2-0 game lead on the Eagles (6-2, 1-2 CVC) 28-26 and 26-24. In the first two games, Southern Virginia hit .345 and recorded 30 total kills while committing 10 errors.

Juniata then responded with a 25-18 win in game three holding the Knights to only .172 percent hitting and 6 errors. Game four also went to the Eagles, 25-23, sending the match to a decisive fifth set.

The final set was all Knights as they took a quick 4-1 lead forcing Juniata to call a timeout. The Knights extended the lead to six, 10-4 drawing another timeout from the Eagles. The teams exchanged points from then on, ultimately giving the Knights the 15-10 win.

Three Knights finished the game with double-digit kills, Nahuel Recabarren with a game-high 21 as well as Paul Clark and Mark Stapley who finished with 14 and 13 respectively. Setter, Kaipo Tagaloa had a game-high 50 assists and Danny Aina added a game-high 11 digs for Southern Virginia.

The Knights return to action as they will face-off against Elizabethtown College on the 16th of February at 10:30 a.m.
