Knights Down Tigers, Remain Unbeaten

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team defeated Hampden-Sydney College on Monday afternoon 6-3 to improve to 5-0 on the season.

The Knights won two out of the three doubles points including the No. 2 team consisting of Ben Spencer and Paul Monson who finished first, handily defeating their opponents 8-3.

Kukutla Motlojoa and Daniel Blonquist quickly followed at the No. 1 doubles flight downing the Tigers (2-7, 1-0 ODAC) 8-4.

In singles, the Knights were able to take four out of the six possible points. Freshman Daniel Blonquist and Junior Kukutla Motlojoa finished first earning straight-set victories at the No. 3 and No. 1 positions 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1 respectively.

Paul Monson followed, clinching the match for the Knights at the No. 2 position with a tough three-set victory 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Ben Spencer was also able to come out on top for Southern Virginia at No. 4, dropping the first set 5-7 before storming back to crush his opponent 6-0, 6-1 in the final two sets.

The Knights will begin conference play on the 22nd of March as they are scheduled to take on Frostburg State University and St. Mary's College of Maryland in a double-header with match times scheduled for 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
