WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team earned a pair of wins on Saturday as they defeated Pfeiffer University, 7-2, and Salem College 9-0.

In their first match of the day, the Knights (2-0) went up 3-0 in doubles as the No. 1 team comprised of Elizabeth Fuchs and Lauren Lefrandt fought for a tight 8-5 victory. The No's. 2 and 3 teams both chipped in 8-2 wins to complete the doubles sweep.

In singles, Morgan Blount and Alyssa Sewell both cruised to victory as they took down their opponents 6-0, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-1. Danielle Behunin and Jenna Hinkle won Southern Virginia's last two points of the match as they also both dominated their opponents 6-0, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-3.

The Knights fought hard but fell short at first and fourth singles, falling in straight sets in both matches.

Against Salem College, Southern Virginia again swept the doubles points dropping only two total games between the three matches played.

The Knights also won all of the singles points against the Spirit, giving away no sets in the victory. Natalie Tetterton and Alyssa Sewell both got the ball rolling for the Knights as neither of them lost any games in their wins. Audrey McBride and Annie Aldrich also won in straight sets, defeating their matchups 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-3. Michele Valentine earned her first career win as a Knight, eclipsing Salem College's No. 6 player 6-0, 6-1. Morgan Blount collected the last point of the day as she picked up a tight 6-2, 7-5 win at the top spot.

Southern Virginia will return to action on the 28th of September as they will compete in the Roanoke Invitational.
