Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, PA. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball fell to the University of Mary Washington Wednesday night 49-46. 
Savanna Christensen scored a game-high 14 points and brought in a career-high 19 rebounds, giving her the double-double. Anna Singer followed closely behind Christensen with 11 points, leading all bench players. Angel Tuisavura added ten points of her own, rounding out the top scorers for the Knights (15-6, 3-4 CAC). 
The Eagles (15-7, 4-3 CAC) pulled ahead early, taking a 7-2 lead thanks to a pair of three-point baskets from junior Maddie Shifflett. Each team finished the quarter scoring five points apiece with Southern Virginia University down 12-7 at the end of one. 
The Knights started the second quarter with a three-pointer by Tuisavura, but the Eagles used a 7-0 run to take a 19-10 lead with 6:20 left before intermission. After an exchange of points and a made three-pointer from Shifflett making the score 24-12 with 4:59 to play, Southern Virginia University closed the first half outscoring Mary Washington 8-3 to cut their deficit to seven points. 
At the break, the Knights found themselves down 27-20. The Eagles outshot Southern Virginia University 43.5 percent (10-for-23) to 29.6 percent (8-for-27) from the field and 50 percent (3-for-6) to 25 percent (3-for-12) from the three. The Knights held the advantage on the boards outrebounding the Eagles 22-15 while collecting 13 offensive rebounds. 
After Mary Washington opened the third quarter with a 6-2 run to go up 33-22 with 7:08 remaining in the third, Southern Virginia rallied off six consecutive points to cut their deficit to five points 33-28 with 5:52 remaining in the quarter initiated by a Christen layup. The Knights and the Eagles secured eight more points each to close out the third quarter with Mary Washington holding on to their lead 41-36. 
Tuisavura opened the fourth quarter making a layup to bring the Knights within three points 38-41 with 7:19 remaining in the game. Two minutes later, with 5:11 left on the clock, Christensen hit a layup to cut their deficit to only one point 40-41. With 4:25, Katie Garrish gave Southern Virginia University their first lead of the game 42-41 off a layup coming from a Christensen assist. Two jump shots from Garrish and Sophie Wright completed their 10-0 run to extend their lead 46-41 with 2:58 remaining in the game. 
Mary Washington collected themselves and responded confidently with an 8-0 run in the final two minutes of play initiated off a Jordan Lee layup to wrap up gameplay. The Eagles used their late-game push to take the 49-46 victory. 
The Eagles finished the game outshooting the Knights 36.5 percent (19-for-52) to 29 percent (18-for-62) from the field and held the advantage 25 percent (3-for-12) to 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from three. Southern Virginia University dominated the rebound game outrebounding Mary Washington 53-39 with 17 total offensive rebounds. The Knights came away with 9-4 advantage off second chance points while securing 12 points off the bench.
The Knights travel to Salisbury University to take on the Sea Gulls on Feb. 8 for their final conference match on the road. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
