DANVILLE, Va.— The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team lost 6-3 to Averett University on Thursday evening. With the loss, the Knights fall to 4-4 on the year.
The Knights fell behind 2-1 in doubles, dropping matches at the No.'s 1 and 2 spots, 8-1. At 3, Lauren Skousen and Elizabeth Fuchs were able to take down their opponents handily, earning the lone doubles point, 8-4.
Moving into singles, the Cougars (4-0) were able to win all four of the top spots as Morgan Blount and Alyssa Sewell went down 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-1 at No.'s 1 and 2, while Natalie Tetterton and Audrey McBride were routed 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at 3 and 4.
Southern Virginia was able to come out on top at 5 and 6, as Lauren Skousen kept her hot streak alive with a 6-1, 7-6 win before Annie Aldrich closed out the day with a 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 victory.
Due to the unexpected closure of campus, the women's season will finish on the 13th of March at 3 p.m. as they take on Virginia Wesleyan.
