Box Score ALTOONA, PA. — The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball debuted in their season opener Friday night, sweeping Stevenson University at Penn State Altoona.

Game Notes
- In the first set, both teams went back and forth exchanging points before costly attacking errors by the Mustangs started a 6-1 scoring run to put the Knights up 13-8
- Stevenson managed to come within two points 13-15, but Nahuel Recabarren recorded a kill, setting up a 4-0 run to go up six points 19-13
- With set point, Stevenson served the ball into the net, giving Southern Virginia the 1-0 lead in the match
- The Knights saw themselves down six points late in the second set 17-11, but Paul Candland sparked a 12-2 scoring run to ahead 23-19
- A kill from Wayne Baldwin and a final attacking error by Stevenson put Southern Virginia up 2-0 with the 25-21 set victory
- The Knights carried the momentum into the final set, going up 8-4 early in the third set with kills from Christian Sheaffer, Steven Rasmussen, and Kyler Evans
- The Mustangs made a strong run, coming back within one point 11-12, but Tyler Sheaffer tallied a kill which began a 5-2 scoring run to go back up four points 17-13
- Two points later, a final 7-1 run, and a final service ace from Sam Durkin completed the sweep for Southern Virginia and locked in their season debut victory
The Knights return to action on Saturday, January 21, to take on Messiah at Penn State Altoona. Game time is slated for 11 am.
