BUENA VISTA, VA. — Returning home after a three-game away stretch, the Southern Virginia University Women's Basketball (2-2) team takes on Salem College (1-4) in Knight Arena on Tuesday, November 29 with tip-off set for 6 pm.
The Knights are coming off a convincing 80-48 victory over William Peace Wednesday night that featured a trio of players leading the way with 11 points each. Southern Virginia showcased a solid stat line, outshooting the Pacers 57.1%-23% from the field, and showed their strength when getting close to the hoop, scoring 44 points in the paint compared to William Peace's 14.
"It's nice to be at home after three games on the road," state Head Coach,
Lynette Schroeder. "We are looking forward to competing and playing team basketball against an athletic Salem team."
Throwing down for the third time in program history, the Knights hold a clean 2-0 record over the Spirits. Southern Virginia has outscored their opponent 184-116 in the pair of games, with the last game resulting in a dominant 106-55 victory where the team brought in 54 rebounds while shooting 52.6% from the field and 44.8% from behind the arc.
Savannah Christensen led the way in last year's matchup, recording a double-double with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds. Coming off the bench,
Taylor Miyasaki tallied a career-high 14 points along with four rebounds.
The dynamic duo of
Courtney Olson and
Addison Newman will be at the forefront of the match for the team, with Olson leading the team in points with 45 and Newman following with 36. The pair are combined for 40 total rebounds and 19 steals on the year.
Breaking out in her third year with the program,
Alyssa McKrola has been making noise against the opposition, sitting third on the team with 31 points and 15 rebounds. The Longmont, Colorado native is averaging eight points-per-game and will be in prime position Tuesday night to continue her impressive season.
The Knights have improved their shooting percentage every game since their loss to Shenandoah two weeks ago and are rebounding tough. If the team can keep improving like they are game-to-game and drastically limit their total turnover count, Southern Virginia will have a solid chance of adding another win to their campaign.
