Southern Virginia Men's Volleyball Goes 2-0 in Double Header Weekend

LANCASTER, PA. — The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team brought in two more wins Saturday afternoon, defeating Eastern University 3-1, and sweeping Lancaster Bible College 3-0. 


Game One Notable Stats

Wayne Baldwin: 20 kills | six aces | five digs

Christian Sheaffer: 13 kills | two aces | three digs

Nahuel Recabarren: 14 kills | five aces | three blocks

Kaipo Tagaloa: 29 assists | three digs | three kills

Game One Notes

  • Southern Virginia dominates et one, going up 15-6 early following a Gabe Wagner service ace
  • The Knights locked in the 1-0 lead with a final 4-1 scoring run off of a Christian Sheaffer kill, a Ben Barrus service ace, and a final Steve Rasmansen kill 
  • Southern Virginia kept their momentum going, racing to a 16-9 lead midway through the set
  • The Knights closed the set with a 3-0 scoring run with a kill coming from Mateo Kimball and two costly errors by Eastern to take the 2-0 lead
  • Eastern avoided the sweep, taking the third set 25-19
  • In the final set, both teams were tied 11-11 midway through the set before a service error by Eastern sparked a 5-1 scoring run to go up 16-12
  • Southern Virginia locked in the 3-1 victory with two final kills from Christian Sheaffer, and a service ace from Ben Barrus

Game Two Notes

  • Recabarren opened the first set of play recording two kills, while Christian Sheaffer recorded one kill off of Kaipo Tagaloa assists
  • Kyler Evans locked in the set victory, getting the final kill off of a Justin Madsen assist to go up 1-0
  • Both teams were evenly matched in the second set with Southern Virginia holding onto the 12-11 lead following a 4-0 scoring run sparked by a McKay Walker kill
  • Nahuel Recabarren recorded the final kill of the set off of Tagaloa assist for the team to take the 2-0 lead 
  • The Knights made quick work of the final set of the game, going up 4-0 early thanks to two McKay Walker kills
  • Recabarren mirrored his second set performance, completing the sweep for the squad off of a kill to end the match

Southern Virginia travels to Randolph-Macon on Saturday, February 26 for a double-header weekend. Game one against Randolph-Macon is scheduled for noon, and game two against Tusculum is slated for 2 pm.
