Box Score BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team hosted Eastern Mennonite University in Knight Arena Wednesday night, sweeping the Royals 3-0.
Game Notes
- Both teams were evenly matched in the first set with Southern Virginia holding onto the 9-8 lead
- Paul Candland and McKay Walker recorded a block to spark an 11-1 scoring run to go ahead 20-10
- Kristo Bianchin Puente closed out the first set with a service ace, giving the squad the 25-15 set win and 1-0 advantage in the match
- Midway through the second set, the Knights doubled up the Royals 12-6, led by three Kyler Evans kills
- Up 19-13 late in the set, Wayne Baldwin sparked a 6-1 scoring run to close out the second set 25-14, and going ahead 2-0
- Christian Sheaffer sparked life back into the team midway through the final set, recording a kill from Sam Durkin to spark a 6-1 run to go up 14-9
- Eastern Mennonite struggled with their attacks in the final moments of the game, recording two costly errors to complete Southern Virginia's sweep, taking the 25-19 third set victory
The Knights take on Elizabethtown on Friday, March 18, in Knight Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
