Box Score NEWARK, NJ. — The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball dropped their first conference match of the season, falling to Rutgers-Newark in three sets 0-3.
Game Notes
- The Scarlet Raiders wasted no time setting the tone of the match, going up 19-9 in the first set
- The Knights had hopes of a comeback, using a 4-0 run led by a kill from Paul Candland, but Rutgers closed the set off of an attacking error from Southern Virginia
- Set two went the same route as the first with Rutgers going ahead 20-12 early on
- After a 4-1 run at the end of the second set, Rutgers held the 2-0 lead in the match, winning set two 25-15
- Southern Virginia kept it close at the start of the third set, trailing 8-11
- The Knights were unable to come back with Rutgers using a final 7-2 run to complete the sweep
- Nahuel Recabarren led the team with five kills, while Kaipo Tagaloa dished out ten assists
- McKay Walker did all he could at the net, recording a dominant five blocks on the night
Southern Virginia will look to bounce back, taking on Kean on Saturday, March 26. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm.
