Southern Virginia University Women's Basketball Season Preview

BUENA VISTA, VA. — Entering their third season in the USA South Conference, the Knights were picked to finish 3rd as results of the 2023-2024 preseason poll were released last week.

N.C. Wesleyan (76 points) is the preseason favorite to win the conference, as the Battling Bishops garnered five of the ten first-place votes, while Brevard (71) received two first-place votes. Southern Virginia rounded out the top three with 64 points and received two first-place votes.

Fifth-year head coach Lynette Schroeder returns eleven players from last season, adding three transfers and three freshmen to her 2023-2024 roster as the Knights look to take on the USA South Conference competition.

"I am excited about our squad this season," Head Coach Lynette Schroeder stated. "The growth of our returners in the off-season has been substantial, and we are adding experience and athleticism with our incoming athletes. As we continue to be disciplined with our work ethic and build on our relationships, we will continue to be competitive in our conference."

The Knights bring back several players who started during the 2022-2023 season, who accounted for 68.2 percent of last season's scoring output—dropping 16.8 dimes per game and grabbing 40.4 total boards a game. Defensively, the Knights held a +3.5 scoring and 7.2 rebounding margin against opponents last year.

The Knights tip off their season with a pair of scrimmages against Apprentice Ship Builders and Washington and Lee this weekend before their season's first contest at Randolph Macon on November 8th.
