Lynchburg, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's wrestling team had an impressive showing at the Liberty Duals, competing in four dual matches against Brewton-Parker College, Montreat College, Liberty University, and Greensboro College. Despite forfeiting several weight classes as the program continues to grow, the Knights secured two victories, finishing the day 2-2.
Dual Results:
Loss: Brewton-Parker College 25, Southern Virginia 19
Loss: Montreat College 39, Southern Virginia 9
Win: Southern Virginia 20, Liberty University 15
Win: Southern Virginia 26, Greensboro College 19
The Knights were led by standout performances across the board. Head Coach Jessica Casperson expressed pride in the team, saying, "The team showed up at their personal best today. They were fierce competitors on the mat and uplifting teammates, inspiring not just our program but everyone at the tournament."
Notable Individual Achievements:
Leigh-Anne Verburg recorded her first collegiate takedown with a beautiful head-inside single and a double leg.
Sadie Allred also earned her first collegiate takedown with a well-executed high crotch move.
Eve Beckstead showcased resilience with her first shot attempt and demonstrated excellent bottom defense against bars.
Gracie Blake led the team in pins, securing three falls. Alyssa Pace and Andrea Castro added one pin each.
Dusti Casperson dominated the day, leading the team with five wins (including an exhibition match) and tying Alyssa Pace with two tech falls apiece.
The team's strong camaraderie and competitive spirit were on full display, earning praise from fellow competitors and coaches. Casperson added, "The unity this team has is inspiring. They're not only strong athletes but also uplifting and kind to everyone around them."
The Knights extend their gratitude to the friends and family who came out to support them. Southern Virginia will look to build on this momentum as their season continues with their next match being at the ESU Warrior Duals Invite in East Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday November 23rd.
