Buena Vista, Va. – The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2024 All-Conference football awards, with several Southern Virginia University athletes earning recognition for their exceptional performances this season.
Freshman Alex Silvester, a tight end and punter from Houston, Texas, made history as the first Southern Virginia football player to receive an individual "of the year" accolade, being named USA South Offensive Rookie of the Year. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the Knights' football program.
During the regular season, Silvester compiled a League rookie-best 449 receiving yards, good for 13.6 yards per catch, with three touchdowns. In League games, Silvester again led all rookie pass-catchers with 426 yards on 30 receptions, good for 14.2 yards per catch, and three touchdowns. For his efforts this fall, Silvester earned Second Team All-Conference honors while also being named USA South Offensive Rookie of the Week once.
Additional Honorees
Tyreeck Hall, a standout on offense, earned All-Conference Second Team honors. Hall finished seventh in the USA South in rushing yards per game, averaging 50.2 yards, and ranked sixth in scoring with an average of 4.8 points per game. His seven rushing touchdowns were the most by a Knights player since Akiva Wedge's performance in 2019, cementing Hall's role as a key offensive contributor.
Quarterback Devin Watson received All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition. Despite playing in only seven games, Watson etched his name in the program's history books. His 367 passing yards against LaGrange ranked as the third-highest single-game performance in university history, surpassing Davis Pinkston's 355-yard game against Wilmington in 2021.
Watson finished the season with 1,600 passing yards, placing him sixth on Southern Virginia's all-time single-season leaderboard, just behind Luke Taylor's 1,637 yards in 2008. Additionally, Watson's 60.44% completion rate and 227.57 average passing yards per game rank him second in program history for passing yards per game, surpassing Mitch Stevenson's 189.5 in 2011.
Spike Adams was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team, recognizing his leadership and mentorship on and off the field. Adams also excelled defensively, finishing second on the team with 78 total tackles, which ranked seventh in the conference.
This season was highlighted by remarkable individual and team achievements, with Silvester's historic accolade and strong performances from Watson, Hall, and Adams underscoring the young Knights' continued progress and promise for the future.
