Buena Vista, VA - The Southern Virginia University has reached a historic milestone in men's volleyball, claiming the number one spot on this week's AVCA/NVA Division III Men's Volleyball Poll for the first time in school history. The Knights, boasting a flawless 24-0 record for the season, have garnered 451 points, including 14 first-place votes.
Maintaining an undefeated streak, the Knights have showcased their dominance by dropping only three sets throughout the entire year.
In addition to their impeccable record, Southern Virginia leads all of D3 in hitting percentage, boasting an impressive 35.2% on 1917 attacks. Their defensive prowess is equally remarkable, ranking second in blocks per set with an astounding 2.413. Notably, the team's ability to limit opponent hitting percentage to a mere .066 sets them apart, leading the nation in this crucial defensive metric.
Individually, senior Tyler Sheaffer ranks third in all of D3 with an average of 10.4 assists per set, while Kristo Bianchin stands third in blocks per set with 1.207.
Christian Sheaffer, a key player powering the offense, leads the conference in Aces and Kills per set, while also making significant contributions on an All D3 scale. He sits fourth in all of Division III in points per set with 5.6 and sixth in kills per set with 4.56.
As they continue their remarkable journey, the Knights are set to defend their winning streak in upcoming matches against CVC rivals Marymount and Randolph-Macon. Southern Virginia will culminate their regular-season home game with a highly anticipated matchup against Randolph-Macon College, gearing up for the intensity of CVC conference play.
