Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team traveled to compete in the Tiger Invite, hosted by Hampden-Sydney College. The tournament featured four singles and four doubles brackets, giving the Knights a variety of challenging matchups.
In the top-seeded singles bracket, Nate Walton and Jared Pitcher faced formidable opponents. Nate battled hard but was defeated 0-6, 1-6, while Jared fell in a similar contest, 0-6, 2-6.
Chase Rishel and Trent McBride competed in the second-seed bracket, showing resilience but ultimately falling short. Chase lost 0-6, 1-6, and Trent dropped a competitive match, 2-6, 3-6.
The third-seed bracket brought closer matches for the Knights. Traejen Kingston, after a tough 0-6, 3-6 opener, bounced back with energy and secured the Knights' only win on day one, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-1. Jacob Feldman, despite two challenging matches, narrowly missed victory. He lost his first match 2-6, 3-6 and battled to a tiebreaker in the second but came up short, 6-4, 1-6, 5-10. Dustin had a difficult day, falling 2-6, 2-6 in his first match and 1-6, 3-6 in his second.
In doubles play, the Knights showed promise but were unable to advance. Nate and Trent were edged out in a close 5-7 match. Freshmen Chase and Jared faced tough opposition, losing 2-6, while Traejen and Jacob fell 2-6 as well. Dustin and his partner fought hard but were defeated 3-6.
Looking ahead, Traejen will play for third place in singles, and all doubles teams aim to secure third-place finishes on day two. The Knights are hopeful for stronger results as they continue building momentum toward the spring season.
