HARRISONBURG, VA – The Southern Virginia University men's golf team had an impressive showing on day one of the Kinder-Williams Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course, finishing in third place with a team score of 292, just a few strokes behind top competitors Christopher Newport and Roanoke College.

Leading the way for the Knights was Dax Anderson, who fired a brilliant 5-under-par 67. This remarkable performance not only placed him atop the individual leaderboard but also marked the second-lowest round in Southern Virginia history, just one stroke shy of Charles Price's record 66. Anderson's debut was a standout, outplaying several top golfers in the field and recording the lowest round of any SVU player in this tournament's history.

Nick Johnson also delivered a strong round, carding a 3-under-par 69, highlighted by two eagles—an incredible achievement for the Knights. This marks a notable milestone as it may be the first time in Southern Virginia history that a player has recorded two eagles in a single round.

Nikko Taggart made an impressive debut as well, shooting a 1-under-par 71 in his first collegiate tournament. Kaden Ford, Charles Price, and Will Agnew all contributed with solid rounds of 76 (+4), keeping the Knights in contention as they head into day two.

With only a few strokes separating the top teams, Southern Virginia remains optimistic about their chances to make a run on the final day of competition. "It was a good start to our season," said head coach Blair Garner. "We are a couple of strokes behind some very good teams, but I believe we can correct a few mistakes and challenge them tomorrow, even with the forecasted rainy weather."

The Knights will look to bring their A-game as they chase their first win of the season.

With a forecast of rain most of the day on Tuesday, tee times were changed to a 9 AM shotgun start for the second round. Southern Virginia's individual scores from Round 1 are below.
