Rome, Ga. — The Southern Virginia University men's golf team capped off its fall season in record-breaking fashion, finishing second overall at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Georgia — the best 56-hole team finish in program history.
Coming off a previous program record of +16 earlier this month, the Knights shattered that mark with an impressive +2 team finish over the 54-hole event, the team battled back from 14 strokes behind first and came as close as a two stroke difference.
The performance was highlighted by Nikko Taggart's individual title, as he finished first overall at seven-under-par (-7) to lead the 19-team, 98-player field.
Taggart's outstanding effort included 11 birdies and one eagle, capped by a final-round four-under 68 that vaulted him four spots into first place and secured the individual championship — and set a new program record with the historic lowest 54 hole score of 209 (-7).
Caden Bertnagole continued his strong play, firing an opening-round 71 (-1) and following it with consistent rounds that included an eagle and nine birdies. He finished tied for fourth at +1, marking a collegiate-best performance.
Nick Johnson delivered another steady showing, climbing 11 spots on the final day with an even-par 72, finishing in 11th place (+4).
Will Agnew battled back after a slow start, improving 24 places with a strong closing round of 73 (+1) to finish tied for 35th.
Charles Price rounded out the lineup, displaying grit through the opening 36 holes with a +3 (147) that included an eagle and seven birdies before finishing 41st overall.
The Knights' remarkable showing — featuring a program-best team score, an individual champion, and two top-five finishes — continues to build momentum as Southern Virginia looks ahead to a promising spring season.
