Agnew Leads Knights Men's Golf to Top-Four Finish at West Pines Collegiate

Douglasville, Ga. – The Southern Virginia University men's golf team battled against some of the top programs in the region, earning a T-4th place finish in a competitive 21-team field, highlighted by standout performances from Will Agnew and Nikko Taggart. The Knights' showing also set a program 54-hole team scoring record and marked their best finish in one of the strongest fields they'll see all year.

The event proved to be a grueling test of endurance. Monday's opening day began before sunrise and ended at dusk, as the team grinded through 36 holes, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Despite the demanding conditions, every player contributed to the record-setting effort.

The Knights hit a challenging stretch midway through the tournament but responded in spectacular fashion, playing hole 17 at six under par as a team—with eagles from Agnew and Taggart and birdies from Nick Johnson and Caden Bertagnole. That surge helped Southern Virginia climb the leaderboard and beat several programs for the first time in program history.

Will Agnew delivered his collegiate personal best performance, showing remarkable composure throughout the event. He carded rounds of 72 (+1), 72 (+1), and 70 (-1), closing with a birdie on the very last hole to secure a T-6th finish out of 108 golfers.

Nikko Taggart was equally instrumental, starting strong on day one with five birdies. He capped off his tournament with an eagle on 17 and finished T-16th at +4 (217).

Nick Johnson continued his steady play, posting 75 (+4) in round one, an even-par 71 in round two, and another +4 in round three.

Caden Bertagnole opened with an even-par 71, faced challenges on the front nine of round two, but bounced back with another 71 in the final round. He tallied nine birdies over the tournament and finished T-41st.

Charles Price provided reliable scoring throughout, recording rounds of +6, +3, and +5 to finish +14 (T-59th).

The Knights will return to action on October 14th at the Bulle Rock Invitational, hosted by Alvernia University in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
