FARMVILLE, Va. - The Southern Virginia University men's and women's swim teams were back in the pool last weekend to kickoff their 2025-2026 season, the seventh under Head Coach Jennifer Jensen.
Both teams traveled to Hampden-Sydney where the men competed in a dual with the hosts, and the women faced off with Sweet Briar and Hollins.
Ultimately, it was smashing success for the Knights, as the men captured a 105-31 triumph over Hampden-Sydney, and the women defeated both their opponents by scores of 126-14 and 126-22.
Men's Results
It was smooth sailing on the men's side as Southern Virginia won all eight events over Hampden-Sydney, including both relays.
Caleb Dixon swept his trio of events, winning the 100 fly, back, and 200 free. Holton Bundy won two events and Sam Dearing was the other individual victor.
All three of the aforementioned swimmers are freshmen, giving the Knights optimism for significant growth as they move closer to the postseason.
Women's Results
On the women's side, their day was just as successful and served as a quality opener to their season as defending Independent South Conference Champions.
The Knights placed three teams ahead of their closest competitor in the 200 medley relay to kick things off.
Kate Black was the first to clinch an individual win after taking the 100 free by just a half second over her teammate, Emma Chamberlain. Reigning Independent South Swimmer of the Year, Jamie Horne, alongside Miranda Parker won two events each to propel the Knights to victory.
Looking Ahead
Next, Southern Virginia will travel to western North Carolina for a quad-meet, hosted by Warren Wilson at Asheville's Buncombe Aquatic Center. It will take place on Saturday October 25th, with events beginning at 2:00 PM.
The meet features an Independent South rival, Piedmont, in a battle of the top two teams in the conference over the last few seasons.
