Thomasville, N.C. – The Southern Virginia University men's golf team delivered another strong performance, securing a second-place finish at the Falcon Shootout at Colonial Country Club, hosted by Pfeiffer University. Competing in a field of 14 teams, the Knights' depth was on full display as all three of their teams made solid showings in the two-round event.
Southern Virginia's A-Team led the charge, finishing second overall with a team score of 605 (+37). Michael McCaffrey was the Knights' top finisher, placing fourth with rounds of 76 and 72 for a 148 (+6). Charles Price followed closely behind, securing a ninth-place finish with a 150 (+8) after rounds of 74 and 76 and was sitting in second after day one. Nikko Taggart was just behind in 11th place, shooting 78 on the first day and then a stellar 73 for an overall stroke count of 151 (+9). Nick Johnson placed 25th, finishing with a 157 (+15) after rounds of 79 and 78. Kaden Ford rounded out the A-Team lineup, placing 41st with a 161 (+19) after shooting 78 and 83.
The Knights' B-Team also had a strong showing, finishing seventh overall with a team score of 625 (+57). Will Agnew matched McCaffrey's total score of 148 (+6) to finish tied for fourth place, shooting 76 and 72. Coleman Oettli placed 23rd, showing consistent play by shooting 78 in both rounds for a 156 (+14). Carter Damron finished in 30th place, carding a 159 (+17) after rounds of 83 and 76. Cadon Bertnagole placed 44th with a 162 (+20), while Ethan Tippetts wrapped up the lineup in 73rd place with a 184 (+42).
Southern Virginia's C-Team placed 12th overall with a team score of 662 (+94). George Simpkins was the top performer, finishing 45th with a 163 (+21) after shooting 82 and 81. Sam Buckwalter placed 47th, shooting 82 and 82 for a 164 (+22). Mason Schlensker followed in 51st place, finishing with a 166 (+24) after rounds of 85 and 81.
With another strong tournament finish, Southern Virginia now turns its attention to the Rhodes Spring Classic in Millington, TN, on March 31st, as they continue their push toward the conference tournament.
