Ocean Isle, NC – The Southern Virginia men's golf team started their spring season in dominant fashion, claiming first place at the Pfeiffer Spring Invitational in a highly competitive 18-team field.
After finishing fourth out of 17 teams at last year's Pfeiffer Spring Invite, the Knights took a significant step forward, securing the title this time around with a two-day total of 612 (+36).
Southern Virginia set the tone on day one, leading the tournament with a team score of 300. They carried that momentum into day two, shooting a tournament-best 312, finishing five strokes ahead of the second-place team.
Sophomore Nikko Taggart, from Katy, Texas, delivered a stellar performance, shooting +3 on both days to finish second overall in the 102-player field.
Kaden Ford, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colorado, had an impressive showing as well, finishing tied for fourth place at +8, with rounds of 75 and 77 on the par-72 course.
Juniors Nick Johnson and Charles Price rounded out the Knights' top-four scorers, both finishing tied for eighth place at +11. The duo each shot 75 on day one and 80 on day two, helping propel Southern Virginia to their championship finish.
The Knights' depth was also on display, as their B-Team and independent golfers put up solid performances, leading to an eighth-place finish among the 18 teams.

With their first win of the season under their belt, Southern Virginia will take a short break before heading back to North Carolina for the Pfeiffer Colonial Shootout in Thomasville, NC, from March 17-18.
