Box Score Buena Vista, VA - During a Saturday afternoon exhibition in Knight Arena, the Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team received contributions from up and down their lineup. The typical starters got the Knights rolling in the first set, before the rest of the group finished the job in a sweep of St. Andrews University.
The match was highlighted by eleven different Knights recording at least two kills during the match. Gehrig Tolman, Maxym Sutton, and Bryce Stringam split time setting, but the attack never slowed down. Christian Sheaffer, Samuel Candland, and Jeremy Brown each had a couple of kills before their day was done.
In addition to the potent attack, the Knight's defense at the net was unmatched as numerous players joined in on a block fest through the match. The first match went to Southern Virginia, 25-11, propelled by a flurry of service aces. They delivered 11 kills on 20 attacks, giving up only a couple of errors.
Brady Dastrup subbed in for the second and third sets, providing notable performances with six kills. Isaac Carrillo and Jason Wang made life easy for their teammates by combining for 7 block assists in the two sets they played. Carrillo also added two aces, one of five Knights to record a multi-ace performance, including Caleb Crowe and Maxym Sutton.
After claiming the second set, Southern Virginia finished the job in the third to provide Knight fans yet another victory on their home floor. Looking ahead, perhaps the team's biggest matchup so far is on the horizon. The Knights will travel to Pennsylvania for a date with the sixth ranked team in the land, Juniata. The match will take place on Friday, March 14th, at 7:00 PM.
