WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - On a rainy Friday at the JDL Fast-Track, the Southern Virginia University women's track and field collected its third consecutive USA South Indoor title after a dominant all-around performance.
In what was anticipated to be a close race for the team championship, the Knights blew away their competition from the jump, ultimately totaling 188 points, well ahead of runner-up North Carolina Wesleyan.
Individual Results
The Knights had a positive start to the day when a group of five athletes nearly swept the scoring positions in the shot put, giving Southern Virginia a quick 29 points. Mikki Prows won the event after smashing her own personal best, throwing for 12.31m (40' 4.75").
For Prows, it's her first-ever individual conference title after a slew of podium finishes over the last four years. She also placed second in the high jump after clearing 1.55m (5' 1") in one try. She added to her collection of medals with a runner-up finish in the high jump, which eventually helped land her as Field Athlete of the Meet.

After dominating the first field event, the DMR quartet of Jasmine De Souza, Hailey Matthews, Tessa Miller, and Kaylee Horner won the first event on the track, and the Knights never looked back.
Southern Virginia dominated the distance events. After Sasha Braddy collected an impressive second in 18:08.61 over the 5K, the Knights took the top four spots in the mile and 800. Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong, who ran her second ever sub five-minute mile, grabbed the win in the mile and Tessa Miller won the 800 for the second time in three years.
Surraiya Mahmud-Newman (Pole Vault), Marin Simons (High Jump) were other victors in their respective events, helping the Knights form the most well-rounded field groups in the region.

Kadance Sawyer, a freshman who has come on strong in recent weeks, podiumed in the shot put and weight throw. Her throw of 11.47m (37' 7.75") in the shot crushed her previous career best.
Amee Newman racked up three podium finishes in the distance events, which ultimately earned her Track Rookie of the Meet honors. Additionally, Kyle Chandler won Coach of the Meet for the third time indoors.
Looking Ahead
The team will stay indoors over the next couple of weeks, as some athletes attempt to qualify for the upcoming indoor national championship meet on March 13th.
Next, they'll compete at the South Region qualifier, hosted by Shenandoah University from March 6-7th at the James R. Wilkins Center.
