LEXINGTON, Va. - Five runners from the Southern Virginia University women's track and field team took to the track at the VMI Winter Relays on Saturday morning.
Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong continued her torrid run indoors with a scorching performance in the mile, clocking in at 5:04.37 to break her third program record this season.
She also claimed first and took down a field consisting of numerous Division l athletes. Amee Newman wasn't far behind in 5:12.46, finishing sixth and becoming the fourth fastest in the event in program history. It was just her fourth run for the Knights after transferring in.
Sasha Braddy and Kaylee Horner also impressed in the mile, finishing ahead of many teams' top runners. They ran times of 5:23.85 and 5:24.69 respectively to place in the top 15.
Making her season debut on the oval was Emma Hillam in the 800. Hillam, who just returned from injury after an impressive cross country campaign, ran a time of 2:29.08 for a promising start to her track season.
