BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - To wrap up the indoor track and field season, Southern Virginia University had an exciting weekend at the NCAA Division lll Track & Field Championships.
Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong and Marin Simons, both of whom have competed at previous national championship meets, finished as Second Team All-Americans in their respective events.
In the mile, Redd-Armstrong drew a competitive heat which included the defending national champion. She put herself in contention, only falling off the lead group over the final two laps and missed qualifying for the final by just a few spots.
Bayleigh's time of 4:56.06 is her second best of the season, good enough to finish 16th place in the country. It's the first All-American nod for the junior from Spanish Fork, Utah.

In the high jump, Marin Simons was flawless through her first two jumps, clearing 1.59 and 1.64 meters on consecutive attempts.
She had trouble on her next height, but performed well enough in the early going to finish tied for 14th in all of Division lll. Simons has now earned All-American honors in consecutive NCAA Championship appearances.
As a program that continues to be on the rise in the national ranks, it's the first time in Southern Virginia track and field history that two athletes have finished as All-Americans at the same meet.
Redd-Armstrong and Simons will rejoin their team to continue the early stages of the outdoor season next weekend at the Washington and Lee Carnival.
