LEXINGTON, Va. - To officially signal the end of the indoor season and a welcome back from spring break, the Southern Virginia University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Washington & Lee Carnival from March 21-22.
There was a slew of personal bests and several performances that sit near the tops of event leaderboards regionally and nationally in the early stages of the outdoor season.
Men's Results
On the men's side, the big winner of the day was Zeke Newman who took a commanding victory in the 400m. He crossed the line in a new personal best of 49.25 to outpace the field of 31.
There were 12 other top ten finishes on the men's side, including Sawyer Apple in the hurdles, who has carried the momentum he gained indoors into the spring. Apple placed third in the 110 hurdles with a new program record of 15.40. That leads the USA South and is sixth in the South Region.
In the field events, AJ word was runner-up in the triple jump and Lucas Martin threw for a massive personal best in the javelin. His penultimate attempt soared for 49.11m (161' 1"), nearly five meters better than what he threw last year, good for sixth place overall.
