LYNCHBURG, Va. - In a quick turnaround from the Hill City Twilight last weekend, the Southern Virginia University track and field teams returned to Lynchburg for the Liberty Twilight on Wednesday evening.
The Knights fared well in a meet loaded with top tier competition, producing five top ten finishes.
Men's Results
Zeke Newman and AJ Word finished top ten in the 400 and triple jump, respectively. Newman's time of 49.71 marks the 6th time he's dipped under 50 seconds this season. Word's best jump of 13.76m (45' 1.75") was just a hair off his personal best, though it is still the second best mark in team history for the program record holder.
Women's Results
Marin Simons and Mikki Prows found themselves in similar positions after the high jump, near the top of the leaderboard. Simons' clearance of 1.63m (5' 4.25") was good enough for third, while Prows closed out the day tied for fourth.
Simons still sits one spot shy of qualifying for the NCAA Division lll championships with just under two weeks before the final selections are announced.
In the 1,500, Emma Hillam squeaked out a personal best by crossing the line in 4:44.24. The transfer from Utah State has improved a considerable amount in the spring after suffering an injury towards the end of the cross country season.
Looking to further solidify her spot in the 1,500 at the upcoming championships was Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong. She emerged successful, becoming the first woman in program history to run under 4:30, clocking in at 4:29.90. She finished 10th, only behind Division l competitors from Liberty and Virginia Tech.
Looking Ahead
The Knights are scheduled to compete Widener's Final Qualifier on Monday, May 11th in Chester, Pennsylvania.
