BUENA VISTA, Va. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its recipients for the 2026 individual and team track & field academic awards.
Southern Virginia University is represented by two individuals, McCormick Johnson from the men's team, and Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong from the women. A male and female scholar of the year were also selected for each division of NCAA athletics.
To be eligible for recognition, student-athletes must stand out in the classroom and in their events. Academically, a minimum GPA of 3.3 is required, while each nominee must have finished inside the top 50 (top 35 for relays) in all of Division lll in at least one event, or participated in an indoor or outdoor national championship.
Johnson, a sophomore majoring in Business Management and Leadership, produced an impressive campaign in the pole vault. In a winning vault at the USA South championships in April, he cleared 4.85m (15' 11") for a lifetime best that became a top 40 mark in the country.

Redd-Armstrong is majoring in Biology and qualified for the indoor and outdoor national championship meets in 2026 and finished as a two-time All-American. She finished the outdoor season with the 16th best time in the 5K, 16:36.45.Â
