LEXINGTON, Va. - The Southern Virginia volleyball team looked to
rebound from a rocky start on day one of the Washington and Lee
tournament. The second days opponents included the host team,
the Generals of Washington and Lee.
The matched see-sawed back and forth with the Generals
winning the first and third set and the Knights winning the second
and fourth set by the scores of 14-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21.
The fifth and deciding set was a combination of the previous
sets. In a race to 15, neither team could gain the momentum
to pull away from their opponents. Finally, after a
controversial line call, the Generals were able to pull away from
the Knights for a 18-20 win.
In the last match for the Knights their opponent was the
Christopher Newport Captains. Unfortunately for the Knights,
the previous match left them physically and mentally drained and
the Captains took full advantage of the situation.
Christopher Newport defeated the Knights in three straight sets
19-25, 8-25, 16-25.
The Knights return to action on September 15 at 7:00 p.m.
against Ferrum College.
