HARRISONBURG, Va. The Southern Virginia Volleyball team split a
Tri-Match Saturday with Emory & Henry and Eastern Mennonite.
The Knights first fell to Emory & Henry 3-0, but regrouped to
in the second match beat the host school.
The misery of the previous weekend and the loss at Ferrum
continued for the Knights as they were unable to beat ODAC member
Emory and Henry. SVU fell 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17. Aubrey Muaina and
Brynn Hansen led the Knights with 11 and 9 kills respectively.
"It was a very challenging first match for us," Head Coach Brian
Pendleton said. "After this past week I was very concerned with how
we would react today. I think we were nervous and it showed in our
play, and they (Emory & Henry) took advantage of that quickly."
Muaina was again at the front of the Knight attack and pushed
the team to the victory over the hosts later in the game. Joined by
Ashley Miles the duo combined for 29 kills (17 for Muaina and 12
for Miles). Sarah Gaskins orchestrated the offense recording 39
assists. The Knights finished off the Royals in four games 25-18,
25-20, 20-25 and 25-13.
"It was nice to get back to winning," said Pendleton. "I was
also very happy with the manner that we won. It was a very
dominating performance and we played well. It's always tough to
lose, but the experience we're getting has helped immensely. I feel
we're getting better every day. Results like this show it."
The Knights now stand at 6-11 on the season. They travel to
Randolph Sept. 26 for a match against the Wildcats.
