Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. The Southern Virginia Volleyball team made it two
wins in a row, as they swept the Wildcats of Randolph College 3-0.
The Knights won the games 25-15, 25-10 and 25-23. The Knights were
led by Brynn Hansen who recorded 9 kills and followed by Sam
Sumsion who contributed another 8 kills.
"It's nice to get this sort of momentum," Head Coach Brian
Pendleton said. "With young teams you go through growing pains, and
we've had those pains this year. Hopefully, we are growing
together, and turning the corner on the season."
The Knights swept through the first to games, and looked poised
to rout the Wildcats, but the host put up stiff opposition in the
third game and ad leads of 16-13 and 20-17. But the visitors
mounted a concerted attack led by Hansen Sumsion and Rika Larsen,
and overcame Randolph for the deciding 25-23 game and match win.
"We took our foot off the gas in that third game," said
Pendleton. "But our rally was fun to watch, and it's nice to know
that we can withstand attacks like that and find the way to win."
The Knights are now at 7-11 on the season. SVU will host Eastern
Mennonite Sept. 29. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 start.
