Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. - Entering the game with a three game win
streak, the Southern Virginia University volleyball team was
looking to keep the streak but fell in five sets to Emory and
Henry. The five set match was the first time this season that the
Knights had played all five this season. The uncharted territory
came after SVU had thumped the Wasps in the fourth set, 25-11, and
looked to have the momentum for the match win. E&H had
different plans, and jumped to a quick lead in the fifth set before
closing out the match with a 15-7 win.
The Knights found themselves in a hole early, as the Wasps
jumped to the quick first set win. A back-and-forth set was closed
out by the visitors, and the 0-1 hole called for the Knights to
respond. Shyanne Ison led the way for the Knights and registered
11-kills for the hosts. Brynn McGinn came in next with 9-kills, and
the duo helped to win the second set at 26-24. The hosts found
themselves behind late in the set before storming back for the tied
up match.
The third bounced back to the visitors, who won with a 25-22 set
win. Ali Krebs, honored before the game as the Knights' lone
senior, helped guide the Knights in the fourth set as they jumped
to a commanding lead, and never looked back. Krebs' 27-assists led
the SVU offense, and the fourth set saw the Knights manhandle the
visitors to tie up the match. Tori Tuttle, served well in the
fourth to keep the pressure on E&H, and keep the Knights
streaking towards the tie.
The fifth proved to be too much for SVU to overcome, and the
Wasps closed out the match. Three different Knights helped on the
defensive end, as McGinn, Ison and Nicole Gwynn registered 9-digs,
while Bryndy Anderson chipped in 3.5-blocks for the night.
The loss drops the Knights to 14-17 on the season. SVU will
finish out the season at home when they host a tri-match with Penn
St.- Mont Alto and Lynchburg. The first match for the Knights will
be at 12:00 in Knight Arena.
