Ison led the Southern Virginia volleyball team with 8-kills and
the team played solid defense beating Mary Baldwin 3-0. Following a
tough weekend, the Knights were looking to bounce back, and found
the remedy in the hosts.
SVU jumped out early on the Squirrels, and behind Ison, Brynn
McGinn and Bryndy
Anderson, the visitors quickly established a dominance over
MBC, winning the first set 25-16. MBC would not have a closer set
than the first, as SVU's defense was shining. Ali Krebs made
the move to libero, and had 13-digs to thwart Squirrel attacks. SVU
forced MBC into 17-hitting errors on the night, as well as
10-receiving errors.
Nicole
Gwynn moved to setter, and orchestrated the attack with
10-assists. The Knights moved to stop any comeback by the hosts,
and flexed their muscle in a 25-13 win. SVU was cruising, and was
not about to let the Squirrels back into the game.
With a hitting percentage of .225, SVU was finding its rhythm,
and with the stops coming frequently, the team had what it needed
for a third set win, and a sweep of Mary Baldwin. The 25-12 score
represented the fewest points an opponent has scored on the Knights
this season, breaking the previous set's record of 13.
Serving was a key for the visitors, as they recorded 10-aces in
the match, with Sara Harmon
recording three. The win gets the Knights get back into the win
column, and they now sit at 3-7 on the season. Another away game
beckons the Knights, as they will travel to Eastern Mennonite for a
Sep. 16 game. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
