STAUNTON, Va.—After earning 37 kills on the night, the Southern Virginia University volleyball team achieved its second win of the season Thursday night by defeating Mary Baldwin College (0-7) in three sets, 25-11, 25-20, 25-13, in Staunton, Va.

The Knights improved to 2-4 on the season with the win as they were led by freshman McKenzie Weaver and senior Tori Tuttle, who earned 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Outside hitter Shyanne Ison contributed five kills, while junior Kaitlyn Eaton had four.

"We played to win the game, so I'm happy with the team in that they worked hard and gave their best effort," said Southern Virginia head coach Paige Hiatt. "We have a lot of areas to work on and we'll need to cut down on the errors that we're making, but we are improving and seeing signs of getting better. With a little more consistency we'll be headed in the right direction."

Southern Virginia tallied only 14 attack errors on 82 attempts while recording nine service aces, including four from freshman Claire Houghtaling. Sophoore Katelynn Tlustek earned 28 assists on the night, while freshman April Bennett led the team with 13 digs.

On the defensive side, Tlustek achieved both a solo block and assisted block in the match while Eaton contributed another assisted block.

The Knights next compete Tuesday night in their home opener against Hollins. The match will begin at 6 p.m. at Knight Sports Arena.
