Men's Lacrosse Falls to Visiting Wesley College

BUENA VISTA, Va.—In its first Capital Athletic Conference appearance, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team fell at home to Wesley College, 22-2, Tuesday afternoon at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.

Freshman Nash Wilkey continued to be a scoring threat for the Knights, adding a goal to bring his total to eight for the season. Teammate Mike Bangerter added the other goal for Southern Virginia for his third goal of the year.

Down 17-0 in the third quarter, Wilkey scored on a pass from Joshua Neilson to trim the lead. Wesley would sneak in one more goal before the break taking an 18-1 advantage into the final quarter.

The Wolverines scored three goals in the fourth quarter before Bangerter added the Knights' final goal at the 7:07 mark of the final quarter. Wesley cemented the score at 22-2 with a late goal.

Wilkey and Bangerter combined for 15 shot attempts on the afternoon with Garrett Maw contributing five shots. The trio combined for 16 ground balls while the team tallied 28 on the day. Bangerter made progress in the faceoff game, winning eight draws on the day.

Freshman Aaron Barraclough started in goal for the Knights, earning seven saves for the day. Tyler Cox played the second half in goal, adding five saves.

The Knights return to action Thursday at home in a matchup with Beloit College. Faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at The Fields.
