BUENA VISTA, Va.—Coming off a contest against top-ranked Salisbury last Saturday, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell, 11-6, to Ferrum College Wednesday evening at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.

The Knights (1-6) struck first with a goal from Zoe Bradshaw, but the Panthers (8-5) answered with a three-goal run to take an early 3-1 lead. Southern Virginia tied the game with two unanswered goals, but Ferrum seized control of the game with three goals late in the first half.

Ferrum maintained its momentum into the second half, scoring three quick goals to increase the lead to 9-3. The Knights cut into the deficit adding three hard-earned goals, while only giving up two before the final whistle.

The Knights were outshot 27-14, but won the ground ball battle, 10-6. Southern Virginia also earned six of 10 draw controls in the first half, but struggled in the second half losing all nine draw controls.

Bradshaw scored a career-high three goals to lead Southern Virginia on the night. Rainey Whitworth, Claire Houghtaling, and Kristen Kessler rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.

The Panthers' Courtney Hamm registered a game-high five goals for Ferrum while Lauren Blankenship added three goals.

Kathryn Lyman (1-6) registered a game-high seven saves on the night as the goalkeeper for the Knights.

The Knights return to action against Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) on March 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Seahawk Stadium in St. Mary's City, Md.
