Women's Lacrosse Suffers Loss at Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—In the first ever meeting between the schools, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell, 20-0, to Christopher Newport University Wednesday afternoon at POMOCO Stadium in Newport News, Va.

"The CAC is a very competitive conference and we are going to take our lumps," said head coach Jordan Sorensen. "I'm proud of our team for battling until the final whistle and continuing to get better."

Senior Caroline Schroeder won seven draw controls for Southern Virginia, while also causing two turnovers. Sophomore Zoe Bradshaw scooped up a team-high three ground balls on the afternoon.

The Captains asserted their dominance from the first draw control, scoring thirteen seconds into the first half. Eight players would register a goal for Christopher Newport, with Ashton Marshall scoring six goals on the day.

Christopher Newport outshot the Knights by a 28-6 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 24-15. Southern Virginia won seven draw controls for the game, while clearing on seven of eighteen opportunities.

Kathryn Lyman (1-11) registered six saves on the afternoon as the goalkeeper for the Knights.

The Knights return to action Saturday for their season finale against Wesley College. The first draw control is scheduled for 3 p.m. at The Fields.
