Men's Lacrosse Defeated at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md.—Despite exceptional goalie play, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team fell to conference foe Frostburg State 24-4 Wednesday evening at Bobcat Stadium in Frostburg, Md.

The Knights (0-13) played inspired from the first face-off, trailing only 5-1 after one quarter, but the Bobcats (11-3) were able to distance themselves in the second quarter leading 11-2 at the half.

Southern Virginia challenged the Bobcats out of the break by allowing only three goals during the third quarter. Frostburg State cemented the result adding 10 goals to Southern Virginia's two in the final quarter.         

Frostburg State outshot the Knights by a 68-13 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 53-29. The Bobcats also earned 23 of 32 faceoffs for the game, while the Knights were able to convert on one of two extra-man opportunities.

Freshman Mike Bangerter scored two goals to lead Southern Virginia on the evening. Nash Wilkey and Joshua Neilson contributed a goal apiece to round out the scoring for the Knights.

Tyler Cox started at goalie for the Knights and logged 17 saves for the evening.

The Knights return to action this Saturday in a matchup against national power No. 7 Salisbury University. The first faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at SeaGull Stadium.
